Bidirectional Symmetrical 100 Gb/s/? Coherent PON Using a Simplified ONU Transceiver

In this letter, a bidirectional symmetric 100 Gb/s/ $\lambda $ coherent passive optical network (PON) scheme with simplified unit (ONU) transceiver is proposed and experimentally demonstrated. the scheme, downstream signal generated in dual-polarization transmitter Alamouti-coding at line terminal (OLT) side then received by single-polarization heterodyne receiver ONU side. The upstream low-cost C-band electro-absorption modulated laser (EML) standard integrated OLT experimental results show that more than 30 dB power budget achieved after 25 km single mode fibre transmission for both . cost maintained low as required bandwidth of optoelectrical device >25 GHz local oscillator can be 4 dBm.
